There’s a drain blockage (in most cases)
Water supply lines or water inlet valve cracked

The most obvious and first step you’ll want to take is to make sure the refrigerator is level.

If the fridge isn’t level, you’ll remove the front grill below it, and adjust the legs or rollers. If this fixes the problem, great!

If the defrost drain is blocked, your fridge will be collecting water in the freezer.

Simply unclogging the drain should help resolve the issue.

If there’s debris in there, even the smallest particle, or even frozen ice chips, this will clog drain line and water instead of going down into the drain pan, will be overflowing in the freezer.

To remove obstructions or clogs, you can remove the drain plug at the front of the defrost drain, and run some warm water through it.

This will allow the drain to unclog and will remove any sediments, dirt, or blocked items that are causing the jam.
