Ways to Improve Fitness Post-Quarantine

Ways to Improve Fitness Post-Quarantine

Covid-19 has changed many aspects of our day-to-day lives. While economic hardship and social distancing have been two of the most difficult aspects to face, not too far down that list is reduced physical fitness. While some people have taken advantage of the lockdown to get in tip-top shape, for others, the isolation has meant less activity altogether.

If you’re in the latter camp and are looking for ways to improve your fitness post-quarantine, we have some great suggestions on how you can do just that.

Head Outdoors

With early summer already here, what better way to get fit than to head into the great outdoors? Not only do you reduce the risk of catching or spreading coronavirus, but whether it’s hiking, running, surfing, or mountain biking, exercising outside is a great way to enjoy nature while getting fit. Even if you opt for a gentle stroll along the beach, it’s still a physical activity that gets you moving.

Join the Gym

While many gyms remain closed at this time, joining one when it reopens can be a more structured way of improving your fitness. If you’re new to the gym, try to start slowly and work with a trainer to build up your strength and endurance. Or, if weights and machines aren’t your thing, most gyms offer a wide range of classes which can be a fun and less stressful way of getting exercise.

Healthy Eating

When it comes to fitness, healthy eating is at the top of the list. What good is it to run 10 miles a day if you’re eating ice-cream and burgers all the time? Getting fit is a holistic practice: it requires you to balance diet, exercise, and mental activities such as stress. To get back onto a healthy eating regime, try to do it in moderation and listen to your body. By following your intuition and researching healthy meal plans, sticking to a moderated diet will be much easier and enjoyable.

Walk or Cycle to Work

If you haven’t already jumped on the ‘cycle-to-work’ bandwagon, now is a good time. With less people wanting to take crowded public transport, cycling to work is an ideal way to stay virus-free while improving your fitness. If the distance between work and home is too great — and if moving is an option — try contacting a Sherman Oaks realtor who can help you find an ideal new home to cycle from.

Find an Active Hobby

Sticking to exercise is easier if it involves something you enjoy doing. Whether it’s dancing, a new sport, or a hobby that requires physical activity, find something fun that will also keep you moving. If it’s a toss-up between the treadmill and your new favorite hobby, you’ll surely choose the latter every time.

If you’re less active after many months in quarantine, the above suggestions can help put you back on the road to improved physical fitness. The important thing is that you enjoy the activities and are able to do them regularly. Remember, looking after yourself physically and mentally at this time is vitally important.
